Angelo and Andrea visitors from Cento, Italy

Angelo Monopoli and wife Andrea Lydzinski of Cento, Italy visited Hershey Violins to talk violin making and techniques. Angelo is in his first year apprenticeship with master maker Benito Tosello where Angelo has finished his first two violins and is continuing his training. Angelo and Andrea enjoyed their visit with us and offered to have us visit Italy as their guest in the future.

Sadie deWall began her violin studies at the age of 3 under her mom Pam (deWall) Wiley and switched to viola at the age of 12. Sadie earned her Bachelor’s degree from Indiana University and her Master’s degree from University of Maryland, both in Viola Performance. Ms. deWall has been a violin and viola teacher for over 15 years and currently teaches in the Harrisburg area ~ all ages, all styles, and all levels. Orchestra credits include: substitute viola, New Jersey Symphony Orchestra; section viola, Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic; Assistant Principal Viola, Charleston (SC) Symphony Orchestra; Kennedy Center Opera Orchestra; Orchestra of the 17th Century (DC); substitute viola in NY and PA area orchestras. Ms. deWall also plays Baroque viola and Viola da gamba. Sadie currently resides in Dauphin, PA on the Susquehanna River.

This awesome sounding #117 violin made by Scott W. Hershey is back in my shop for resale. Due to health issues this instrument has been returned. Anyone interested in a quality hand-made violin with a great sound and projection you might want to check out this beauty. Take a look at the photos and ponder the possibilities. Hmmm.

Cullen Bell (Harrisburg, Pa) Age 9 is taking this Hershey Concert Uke for a test drive. He had his own pick in his pocket and is becoming a very good uke player. Look out Jason Mraz! Arthur Fiddler visits with Hershey Violins. This little guy is making his way around the fiddle shop these days. Arthur is a 30″ professional marionette with 20 strings used to operate his fiddle, blinking eyes and eyebrows. I performed with him and 5 other puppets a few years ago. Other stars will be posted shortly. Stay tuned, Elton, Liza, Phantom and Elvis are in the theater.

I just finished stringing-up this little beauty. It sounds awesome! New bracing pattern and a redwood top made a big difference in tone production. These little instruments are great fun to play. Tried one lately?

These violin outfits include the instrument, case and bow, are priced at $1200, $1400 and $2400.00.  Cellos are also available.

The “Bazzini” line is a product line created by Bernd Dimbath of Heinrich Gill, Bubenreuth, Germany and produced under their supervision and to their specifications. I had the pleasure of meeting the fine folks at Gill some years ago while visiting them in Germany and they are without doubt, fine instrument makers.  I recently received a selection of  instruments from this new “Bazzini” line and I am happy to report, they are a perfect fit for the student stepping-up to a better instrument at Hershey Violins.

Scott W. Hershey builds a hand-crafted Concert Ukulele to his violin making standards. This uke features “mother of pearl” inlays front and back, his “signature H” inlaid headstock, boxwood tuning pegs, tapered ribs and a hand finished varnish.

Ukulele’s have been around for many years. The Portuguese introduced the instrument to the Hawaiian culture and the rest is history. This little instrument was easy to transport, easy to play and make enjoyable music. In fact when the C.F. Martin Guitar Company was financially strapped, they used their Uke production to avoid a financial meltdown in the early 1900’s. From toys to professional instruments, these “little giants” have been responsible for introducing music to our culture for hundreds of years.

Julie Brensinger, Mechanicsburg, PA selects #52 as her performance instrument.

Starting  in the fall of 2011 Julie Brensinger will be attending West Virginia University as a violin performance major. She will begin her studies under world-renowned violinist Mikylah Myers Mcteer.

Miss Brensinger toured Europe in 2007 with the Stretto Chamber Orchestra from Princeton, New Jersey. Starting in 2009 Julie became a guest artist and member of the Messiah College Symphony orchestra under the direction of Dr. Timothy Dixon.

Julie has worked with many talented musicians. These include Johanna Hartman, Zachary Levi, Miryam Ratner, Peter Sirotin, and Sherri Anderson.

Miss Brensinger is most commonly known for her melodious slides and warm vibrado as well as her sense of movement and stage presence. As stated by violinist Leah Kim “Julie has a passion for  violin that is rarely seen in this industry.” Miss Brensinger’s love for music is clearly expressed in every piece that she performs.
